Wyrmwood is an ever evolving progressive psychedelic rock band and mixed media collective from Omaha. Their 2023 debut album “Jump in the Water” largely touched on a folk style of rock with psychedelic hues. Mixed by local engineer, Ian Aeillo, the record sounds like a modern take on sounds conjured by 70s folk and progressive rock legends.
Two years later, Wyrmwood has shaped into a 6 piece power prog band, with spacious analog synths, percussion, stacked vocal harmonies, and an immersive visual experience curated by local artist Michael Zimmerman. 8 additional guests are featured on the new record, including Mike Robinson (Railroad Earth) & Oliver Craven (Sierra Ferrell). Taking more risks, Wyrmwood delivers with a larger sounding (& running!), meticulously orchestrated record. The concept double LP, “Shelf Life” clocks in at 83 minutes, and thematically centers around the relationship between self preservation and death. The album was again mixed by Ian Aeillo and mastered by Doug Van Sloun.
Fear not death (in general), or a dismal vibe with a record like this! Accepting that only happen when we learn to celebrate life. It is both melancholy and joyous, sonically and thematically, but ultimately stands as a piece that takes the listener on an unpredictable ride—exercising emotion all along the way. It stresses the importance of personal time, allowance of that in others, presence, and acceptance of the demise of all things we currently sense. There is much joy and love in the core of the music’s message. Words only go so far. It is the band's hope that the “Shelf Life” listener experiences some sort of catharsis, feeling more connected with oneself so they can go out and live feeling a little more at ease with things.
The live Wyrmwood experience can be enjoyed by anyone from indie/garage/psych rock aficionados to prog nerds & jamband phreaks!!!
